Laz, my, but aren't we defensive! If you notice I always say and write out city names, including Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Yes, I do believe that referring to San Francisco as "The City" is a bit affected, but it harks from the days when San Francisco was just about the only real city in Northern California. I agree also that San Francisco is not a place I would want to live or even visit now. The once mighty has fallen far. As for corrupt cops and drunken firefighters, I cannot comment. Time was, the whole of California was a beacon to the entire nation, widely known for its clean cops and sober firefighters. I am aware this state of affairs, too, has changed over the years, and not just in San Francisco. - Holly
