The average disposable income (after tax, food and shelter) in Shanghai is 16,683 Yuan in 2004.

The average disposable income for all 15 cities in ChangJian Delta is >13,000 Yuan in 2004.

Here is the link for the Chinese article.

I have a friend, who lost his job in San Jose after dot.com bubble burst, so he sold his house, and took the money, along with several other Chinese, went back to Shanghai and set up a consulting company. I asked him how much his company pays for their employees, he told me that >10,000 Yuan a month for people who have some experience. And that was 3 years ago. The pay check I mentioned for that skilled worker in DaZhong VW plant is also 3 years old. So I guess that is the pay level for a skilled labor.

Yes, now in China, skilled labor is not that cheap either!
