From what I hear a dentist working for the government in Nanjing is making less than 5000 Yuan a month for sure. She also opened her own clinic but it doesn't seem to make that much.

When I suggested $1 an hour as a typical manufacturing wage in China to one of my students he said "yes but only in the coastal cities". He is from Ningxia.

The PPP adjusted GDP per capita in China is around $4000-5000 per year. But without adjustment it is more like $1250.
