TELECOMWORLDWIRE--(C) 1994-7 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD Macrovision Corp and Digimarc Corp are currently developing a new solution for digital-to-digital copyright protection. Aimed at the DVD platform and other new digital distribution media, the solution will enable owners of feature films and interactive educational entertainment to use digital watermarking to identify their copyrighted material and prevent unauthorised recording and playback. The new technology will be based upon Macrovision's play control technology and Digimarc's watermarking technology and will be imperceptible to the viewer but there to be read by special purpose decoders built into software or silicon chipsets. Macrovision and Digimarc plan to license the technology to video rights owners worldwide and to work cooperatively with consumer electronics manufacturers, PC platform companies and their suppliers to implement the decoder technology.
