Interesting. I keep cash in various currencies, including AUD (but mainly CAD). The fact that Australia sells all these commodities and still has 6% trade deficit is a bit disturbing. But it seems that they were in this position (6% trade deficit) five times since 1980. Each time they recovered to about 2-3%. Let’s hope that they will recover once again and not stay at this level like the US. On the bright side: in 1980 at the peak of prior commodity boom the AUD/USD exchange rate was 1.15.
