In general, I agree with that gwn, but to a lesser degree than your POV seems to be on the issue.
We now have the technology to be able to see, hear & read about those who "don't know right from wrong" that is superior to what was available to us back then. Back in the 50's, we had to rely on the MSM, hollywood, etc., to inform us of the world around us. And believe it or not, they were much more conservative back then - movies & TV shows always had a positive ending - life in America was was portrayed as idyllic & wholesome for the most part (Leave it to Beaver is an excellent example, one of many). And it was far easier back then to avoid contact with people of poor character too.
Today however, I would think that the liberal left, the MSM, Hollywood & vastly improved forms of communication have exposed us to & made it more acceptable to have low morals & ethics, thus blurring the lines between what is right & what is wrong. IMO, moral relativism of the left has so blurred the lines of right & wrong, good & bad that it's no wonder more conservative folks are shocked at what they see today.
But that doesn't mean life in the 50's was idyllic. Laz has pointed out a few things that have changed for the better since then. We simply weren't exposed to the dark underbelly of those things back then like we are today. But they existed, of that there is no doubt.
