I'm sure one has to actually go there to decide if it is so? There is a fundamental difference, of course, and that's in the people -- South Africans, blacks and whites, are generally easy going and nice to each other. Russians are hard, cynical and cruel as result of the severe climate and even harsher history.
It's for this reason that, in SA, a minority of whites were able to subjugate the large majority of blacks for 350 years. Yes, you will hear about all the evils of apartheid and how the blacks were cruelly oppressed but the truth is that most blacks accepted their lot quite happily -- the four million mixed-race people are a tribute to that. In fact, today, they may even outnumber whites.
And, indeed, when a black government came into power very little changed. With the exception of the new breed of militant black political elites, steeped in Marxism, US liberal "entitlement" and affirmative action, and "anti-Holocaust" revenge, most blacks still treat the whites in the way they always did. The promised uprising and blood bath never materialized -- much to the chagrin of foreign commentators. Even today, forget politics, whites and blacks get on very well together, at a level of course, and probably better than they do in the UK, Europe and certainly in the US with all its "anti-racist" grandstanding and propaganda. |
