Ted,

One of the most sensible analyses of the political spectrum I've run across is a British site called the "Political Compass".

Here's what the author has to say about Hitler:

" Hitler, on an economic scale, was not an extreme right-winger. His economic policies were broadly Keynesian, and to the left of some of today's Labour parties. If you could get Hitler and Stalin to sit down together and avoid economics, the two diehard authoritarians would find plenty of common ground."

You'll find a graphic on the page labeled "Analysis".

If anything, Hitler was a centrist on the Left-Right scale. But where he really was an ogre was on his self-aggrandizing belief in the State.
