College coaches have to recruit steadily ... otherwise .....

.......... they get the whole team dependent on one particular year's class, as North Carolina did this year with three excellent juniors.

North Carolina also had a problem with the turbulence of Matt Doherty's exit. It didn't help having drug charges levied at JamesOn Curry in the spring of 2004. He's one of the finest players ever to come out of the State of North Carolina. Williams immediately retracted UNC's grant to Curry. He ended up having a phenomenal late season at Oklahoma State.

College basketball is fascinating. It's kind of nice that a couple of players can't make a school rule the scene for a protracted period of time.

Duke's steady quality is amazing. Had Luol Deng not gone pro on them last spring, they would have been dynamite this past year. I think it's incredible how "Coach K" gets his players to stay in school. For example, neither J.J. Reddick nor Sheldon Williams appears to be opting for the NBA draft this year. Duke is going to be incredible next year.

Take care.
