... their anti-abortion & anti-gay attitudes ...

They've said that they will have no bills with respect to abortion.

They've said that they are quite content with registered domestic partnerships that accommodate pension entitlements and such.

To pick up on a comment from Gulo, these are stances that would have been too far out for the NDP in the memory of some of us born in the 60s.

If you've decided that you hate the Conservatives, and that the Liberals (hideous warts and all) are what you want, then fine. That's your democratic right.

The BNA Act promised "Peace, Order and Good Government." There are Canadians out there who don't believe that the Liberals have kept that covenant. If you think that we've had "good government", by all means, reward those guys.

Don't piss on those Canadians who think we can expect better as somehow "un-Canadian."

As much as I might have something to say on abortion or gay rights, I happen to think that there are far more pressing issues. Like sovereignty, as expressed through a viable coastal surveillance system, or a considered immigration policy. Or criminal justice, like in giving appropriate resources to the RCMP. The federal government has been so busy issuing press releases on hot-button issues that they haven't bothered to take care of their constitutional responsibilities. It would be nice for a change if they performed effectively and well the responsibilities of the federal government before they selectively beat up on the provinces.
