I find myself in between you guys. I think that with a timetable for departure and renewed iraqi committment to a good outcome, american boots are important. But if the iraq regime begins to resemble the Saigon regime in not being able to garner critical mass of popular support, all bets are off. If iraq falls apart the kurds will end up being a second israel in the region which will not be helpful with the arabs or turks for that matter. Shiaa land will become and iranian dependency and Sunniworld a nightmare of bloodshed and competing forms of miserable outcomes.
I was encourage a bit in the NYT today that the US is finally putting some pressure on the iraqis to get something done quickly. mike
