thanks for the explanations on ADSL...I see my understanding for this technology isn't very good so far so sorry for wrong statements like the one I posted here...it's difficult to understand and what is right and wrong depends very much on the state of development.

My principal question is: Will DT be able to offer ISDN and xDSL through the same pair of wires? Or more generally: Can they offer both services to a household without digging the street? And how exactly will they do it?

ADSL runs 18,000ft or 6000m, at that distance the speed is
around 2Mb, shorter distances can run up to 8Mb


What line noise dist. [db] is anticipated for these figures? Doesn't give Shannon's Law the limit for the Bitrate:
B = Ci * ld(1+S/N)
