I wonder if this is why the Arabs lost their lead in science and math. After defeats like that, I could see the fundies saying that this was God's retribution for their pride. If the caliph had prayed more, then it would have never happened, etc. Then, after they gained control, the fundies never let up...


It was the corruption coupled with the schism between the Sunnis and the Shi'ites and the fighting between the Caliphs. That's the stated reason.

In addition, I think its the desert heat. People are less willing to work and cooperate when they are overheated. Seriously. Most of the road rage in the northern half of this country occurs in summer rather than winter. As much as we profess to love the sun and heat, I think its messes with our psyches.
