EXPLORATION EXTENDS MINERALIZATION AT LUMINARIA, PERU
Tinka Resources Ltd. has released additional sampling results from the company's 3,500-hectare Luminaria project located in the Huaraz mining district, department of Ancash, Peru.
Channel sampling and pitting have extended the mineralized surface area at the Rurimarac Hill zone by a further 200 metres by 150 metres lying south of the previously reported surface mineralization. Pits were dug to a maximum of 3.1 metres through the Chimu formation and bottomed in strongly altered diorite intruding the overlying sandstone. Vertical channel samples in the pits yielded results ranging from 0.07 gram per tonne gold to 52.23 g/t Au with an average of 12.92 g/t Au over 1.37 metres. Further channel sampling was done in trenches which cut across the manto horizon immediately above fresh diorite on the eastern edge of the mineralization. Six channel samples ranged from 9.24 g/t Au and 8.7 g/t silver to 35.52 g/t Au and 109 g/t Ag, with an average of 19.20 g/t Au and 38.63 g/t Ag over 0.4 metre.
Exploration along the east-west road cut has identified further mineralized horizons dipping westerly and lying parallel to the horizons found on Rurimarac Hill. A total of six horizons have been identified to date over a distance of 200 metres. Two shallow pits were dug into one of the newly identified horizons to a depth of 1.15 metres. Vertical channel samples in these pits ranged from 0.1 g/t Au to 30.28 g/t Au with an average of 7.91 g/t Au over 0.98 metre. A one-metre channel sample, which cut across the eastern horizon, returned a value of 26.58 g/t Au. The anomalous gold values are associated mainly with pyrite, arsenopyrite and grey quartz occurring in the Chimu formation, consisting of white quartzite, sandstone, and narrow shale and coal horizons in contact with strongly altered diorite.
In the previous program (reported in Stockwatch on Nov. 26, 2004), 25 pits were dug within the zone of interest to a maximum depth of four metres located within an area of about 270 metres by 100 metres. The pits intersected the Chimu formation and bottomed in strongly altered diorite intruding the overlying quartzites. Vertical channel samples in the pits ranged from 1.2 g/t Au to 24.6 g/t Au with an average of seven g/t Au over two metres.
The analytical results and calculations were reviewed by John Nebocat, PEng, a qualified person.
The company continues to be encouraged by these results and is currently undertaking an induced polarization and magnetics survey over the area. |
