The usual knee jerk reaction to the idea of Quebec separating from the Canadian Confederation: THE DESTRUCTION OF CANADA!!!!

As usual: WRONG.

The rest of the Canadian Confederation would still exist and, quite likely, with great advantages over its present state.

Right now, Canada is being run for the coerced advantage of Quebec political elites.

The present Adscam uproar has made this visible: Plundering the Canadian taxpayer is justified by those caught up in it as the result of efforts fighting Quebec separatism. Thus the outburst reported here:

“The separation of Quebec from Canada is not stoppable,’ Alfonso Gagliano told Radio-Canada. “He’s going to destroy the party and break up the country,” Gagliano said during a television interview with the CBC’s French-language network.

Gagliano was the Liberal party bagman for Quebec.

Gagliano was Canada’s ambassador to Denmark until Martin fired him over allegations of impropriety under the sponsorship program, which was his responsibility as public works minister.

Actually, Chretien tried to hide him in Denmark and Martin fired him for being exposed.

Here is the truth of Quebec "separatism": The majority of Quebeckers want the advantages of belonging to Canada without being part of Canada. They are patriotic for Quebec, not Canada.

What they want is is a customs union with Canada.

They have been bought off by Quebec politicians in the Liberal party and briefly, the Conservatives under Mulroney, who is a Quebecker. Bought off through transfer payments from Canada, federal grants for industries preferentially given to Quebec companies, a "bilingualism" policy disguising a Quebec takeover of Federal civil service, and Federal government adoption of socialist and pacifist policies far more reflective of Quebec attitudes than those of most other Canadian citizens.
The Liberal party under leadership of Quebeckers has sold all this nonsense, and itself, to other Canadians as the necessary price of Canadian unity and exacted its own tariff by pillaging Canadian tax rolls.
