Great! This would be a good topic (impact of zoning, development fees etc. on the housing market (quantity and price) to get a PhD student interested in as clearly there is disagreement and my own skills are useful in this area, but I won't be researching it myself and seems like there should be various career options for someone who did research on this. They'll need GIS, and econometrics, and understand the theory and practice.... There are a lot of things one needs to know there. Given the time allowed now to complete the degree at our school they'd need to be pretty good in some up front.

Today I met with a student looking for a topic. He is thinking about GMO crops at the moment, though in the very first stages of deciding if that is an interesting or useful topic. He is from Romania. Then I have a Chinese student who needs a topic.

My more senior student is looking at energy and economic growth in China. We have lots of other odd topics in our department :)
