Korea

Korea lost 1.5% today making it the biggest loser in Asian markets today…Selling across the board…volume steady with prior sessions at 391mm shares trading hands…

Steels being hard hit…INI down 5% and Posco following suit -2.6%…following from weakness in US Steel…

Defensives also suffered as Kepco lost 2.6%….ADR looked like reversed last night…

Despite banking shares ending lower, Kookmin came out with results after market close…beat expectations by posting new profit of W345bn against a median projection of W249bn… mainly achieved by cutting provisions by 70%…stock closed down 2.7%..

Taiwan

Early gains disintegrated as the day wore despite positive momentum after the results of AUO and TSM yesterday just after market close…Volume at $1.5bn …Weak US overnight performance combined with negative pressure from banking stocks were the main reasons…key Taiwan economic indicator turned negative yesterday…

AUO was up 1% on very strong volume...nearly touching key NT50 level…most active today in the market…Hannstar and Chi Mei down -0.4% and 1% respectively losing some ground after strong gains yesterday…

Chip-makers fared better as TSM closed on today’s highs up 1.1%…UMC ahead by 0.2% before results out after market close…marginally better than expectations...
