hiram-

LOL. dont you mean antidisestablishmentarian<G>?

yeah, i know the process is corrupt for the most part, but i have a feeling that:
1-there are a few true believers in washington
2-the RBOCs arent stupid, just slow. they have to realize that competition will help them in the long run.
3-remember cryptology? people across the country have been so pumped full of competition hype, they wont accept anything less that complete competition.
4-if they want scorched earth, they will get (referring to the RBOCs). they are going to have to let the others play on their turf, or:
a) the ISPs will start deploying telephony gateways and kill off the holy grail for the RBOCs, long distance.
b)the justice dept. will have eat them alive for antitrust issues, and the FTC will tie them up with crap until the end of time for restraint of trade.

it really is simple. we are about to go through a lot of change and they are going to have to accept it. BTW--what happens if the government really begins to consider the RBOCs a protected monopoly and begins to view their equipment as part of a public trust?

remember, even bueracracy gets slammed by inertia. the only thing that is certain is that what is certain will change.

good luck to all,
trey
