re: I'd take that idea further and say with the number of "red states" in this nation, a 60 senator majority is very possible in the Senate.

Red/Blue is not written in stone. Florida is 50/50 Dem/Rep, it just happened to vote slightly Rep in the last election.

I would bet even money that the Republicans lose Senate seats in '06. They are increasingly looked at as extremists. They are giving up ground in the middle for the fringe religious right. The polls show abysmal approval numbers for Congress, worse than Bush.
