Beckman Coulter to pay up to $140 mln for Agencourt Wed Apr 27, 2005 08:46 AM ET NEW YORK, April 27 (Reuters) - Beckman Coulter Inc. (BEC.N: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Wednesday it has agreed to acquire Agencourt Bioscience Corp., a provider and products and services to the drug and biotechnology industries, for $100 million in cash, and may pay an additional $40 million through 2007. Agencourt is one of five large-scale gene sequencing centers whose goal is to sequence the genomes of organisms with high medical importance. Beckman said it expects the acquisition to close near the end of May 2005 and will dilute second-half earnings by 4 cents a share. The company said it expects the acquisition to add to earnings in the second half of 2006. Agencourt had 2004 sales of about $27 million, Beckman said. Beckman makes biomedical testing instrument systems, tests and supplies that simplify and automate laboratory processes. yahoo.reuters.com
