SS is an insurance program. If you don't like it, get off the grid. Medicare is a safety net, if you don't like it, get off the grid.

You're right about getting off the grid and we should all strive to do that. SS was never sold as insurance program. What was promised was guaranteed payments for anybody and everybody who paid in. Its hard to get off the grid but it is doable. If you can derive all your income from never working a job you're off the grid. Thus you must limit all your income from capital gains and dividends, which is exactly what the super rich do.
