SS is one of the most successful programs the government has put together. It lifted an entire generation of elderly out of poverty and it also helps the widowed, the orphaned and the disabled.

What's wrong with that?

There is a baby boom generation followed by a baby bust followed by a smaller boom etc. etc. Once we get over the baby boom hump, we're back to busters again. It's a cycle, not a permanent state of affairs.

If we simply take the cap off of SS taxes, we fix the system.

What's wrong with that? Why should SS be regressive?

Medicare is a much bigger and more current problem. Medical care in general is a big problem. It didn't help that the AMA limited medical schools a century ago or that BigPharma spends twice as much on PR and advertising than it does on R&D.

Maybe putting people on planes and letting them buy medical treatment in Thailand and India will help take the pressure off the US medical system. Who knew that such a thing would be possible?

Maybe we can then outsource the legal profession so that lawyers cost $20/hr instead of $400. Who knows, we can probably outsource education to India through video teleconferencing.

Who knew?
