Just to be clear, Jadot is pretty generic and ubiquitous. But, I agree, they are generally pretty decent selections.
What's impressive, however, is the 2002 White Burgundy vintage. I'd written the entire lot off years ago due to soaring prices and less than pleasing quality in price ranges that were approachable, while still ridiculous compared to Calif. Chardonnay. Things like Mersault and Puligny were more money than I have ever spent on a wine, and this was back in the mid-80's. Great wine, but puleezah!
This fellow I met recently, a retired importer, suggested I try any of the 2002 vintage, and gave me a low end Jadot to try. And since then, I've tried a bunch of the vintage and they are all, without exception, what I remember loving so much of white burgundy back when it was reasonably affordable....20-30 years ago.
That was my point....it was not about Jadot, just that the most generic of all generic Jadot selections (the "Chardonnay", of all things) was reminiscent of some late 70's White Burgundy that I'd assumed I'd never try again. |
