Right, exception to the rule ... got to disagree about the Vatican, it does not have a country therefore is not a country, though it is a state, and recognised as such ... this could be a regional [country?-g-] difference in the language we're using ... on re-reading that post i notice i did not read well the first sentence from the declaration, duh, it had been a long day ... the lacondón are a story, they are a recent tribe, formed in the last few hundreds of years, and well aware of it, in fact they are proud of it, they are the ones who escaped from all the other maya tribes, would not submit to anybody, and got no intention of submitting to the mexicanos either ... many settlers in and near their lands have just disappeared, some in recent years ... there are only a few hundreds left, the son of a friend of ours is trusted by a few who come to the nearest market town, and writes things on them sometimes, they are an insight into the old maya world ... the government takes now the attitude that it is good to preserve the selva in that area in its natural condition, and the lacondón do that better than anyone, so they just leave them alone ... many have converted to sort of a born-again religion, evangelists have been going in there for years, still many practice ancient rites, some of which remain entirely secret
They have a right ... people have a natural inalienable right to their homeland, sense of nationalism or no, formal state or no, enjoying approval of you or me or the man in the moon, or no ... it remains only to recognise their right, or deny it in the course of taking their lands .... much later .... cheers |
