Tanker, crew boat collide, closing Sabine ship channel
dailysentinel.com

PORT ARTHUR, Texas — A tanker and crew boat collided Thursday in the Sabine Ship Channel, sinking the crewboat with four men aboard.

The Sabine Ship Channel was closed until further notice.

The four were rescued after the 784-foot tanker collided with the 101-foot crew boat in the channel near the mouth to the Gulf of Mexico. The crewboat capsized and sank.

The Coast Guard rescued three of the men, and the fourth was rescued by another ship, the Coast Guard said. They were all taken to hospitals. At least one crewman was unconscious when he was rescued.

The tanker is anchored three miles off shore. The Coast Guard found no evidence of pollution or injuries aboard the tanker. The cause of the collision is under investigation.
