Yes. The reason, if I understand it correctly, is not that
there are more telecommunication lines due to the internet.
Rather, the technology used by the internet (packets, which
travel independently in parallel, or something like that)
is much
more efficient than one for the old phone lines. Thus, you can
put about 10 times more voice lines on the same cable. Explains
the price drop. And, the number of connections grows
exponentially with the number of nodes. A lot more efficient
network.
