5 years ago the technology world was going gangbusters. Everyone predicted huge growth. Now look at Cisco, Intel, Microsoft. They have grown little, if any, and their stock is not even close to recovering the highs. Many companies have almost gone out of business. Look at 3 com, Uniphase, Nortel, etc. Compared to them, Qlogic has done pretty well.
I do not remember what Q paid for Ancor (at the high point of stock valuations, so prices were high, but paid for in inflated Qlogic shares), but it did diversify the company out of HBA's, and made Q a full service SAN provider. With their continued sales of blade servers, switches, OEM switches, and 4 gig technology, I think the Q is better off for the Ancor buy. Didn't Emulex buy a switch company in the last couple of years? Q is way ahead of them! imho wj |
