"Frankly I have believed for a long time that the Federal Government and by extention the country is nearly unworkable. Where I live in Ontario, every level of government is claiming poverty, and the costs are skyrocketting. The water rates have more than doubled, Hydro is hugely expensive, the roads are increasingly impassible and under the Provincial Fiberals it is only going to get worse. However if Ontario were to separate from the rest of Canada, there is enough income generated within the province to solve most of the problems. That cannot happen under the Federal Government, the Federal Government simply wastes far more money with far less effect than Ontario can afford. Anything would be better than the present situation with each provincial government pleading their poverty and the Federal Government spending money on whatever farce pops into their empty heads."

So you think Ontario joining the US will solve all those problems?

I would guess you are not concerned that the US is running the largest fiscal deficit in history, likely to increase given current policies? You must also think that they would leave Ontario with more money than we currently have? You must have closer ties to the individual states than I, as the last I heard most are in deep fiscal doo-doo. California is a good example.

Things I have recently read:

- several states rejecting the education policy.

- 40 million plus without medical insurance.

- huge illegal alien problems, putting strain on education and health care.

- crime increasing.

- infrastructure crumbling.

- huge job losses.

- major effort underway to cut SS.

- medicaid in worse shape than SS.

It's hard to understand where we would gain as you seem to think, but personally I would prefer to see Ontario stay right where it is, warts and all.
