I agree Tim, but fleets of B52s laying down acres of explosions was deliberate policy too. Nixon got drunk and decided to give Cambodia a dose too [if I have that right].

I hasten to add that I am not disagreeing with bombing Hiroshima. Put me in the decision-maker's chair and I'd decide to do the same. I would NOT want to have led the charge ashore in Japan, targeting only armed soldiers who were opposing me. To me it was fair enough to try to get them to give in by showing them what nuclear bombs would do if they didn't. It was a tribal war.

The Japanese were certainly making it clear in Nanking that they were totally in charge and terrorizing everyone into total and abject submission. Maoris used to do that and EAT the opposition as well.

It was a very, very nasty and vicious world back in the day. It still is in all too many places. I quite like the idea of an American Empire. I've signed up. If I can't have a NUN, I'll take the next best thing.

I say the USA should take over Africa too. The whole thing! Fire Mugabe, hold real elections. Colonisation is not all bad. Libya has given in and foregone their nukes.
