I read a post earlier, some time back about a climber, I think from New Zealand, that had a cell phone and called home from near the summit of Mt. Everest.

As I understand it, he perished.. That is so sad, but that is the life of a climber.

He was dissed here for his lack of priorities.. What are his priorities? What are YOUR priorities?, you desk-bound people?.. Don't you understand? This is INHERENT in certain chosen people. It can't be changed.. It is just the way it is..

I bet his wife married him long after he became a climber.. Didn't she know? Didn't she love him for what he did?. For what he was?.. He couldn't turn off his passion. His love of the mountains, I mean.. I couldn't... That's what discovery is all about..

I know some of the upside and the WORST of the downside in climbing, in adventurism in general..

Please don't diss ALL the people that went before you, trying and sometimes failing.. If a person doesn't try, how will he/she ever succeed?.. I don't know..

Here is a link to a success.. A COUG (Washington State University) and his son. My hats off to ALL of them.. John and Jess Roskelley .. And old Jim Wickwire from Seattle too, not much older than me. <g>..
