Too much information floating around out there.

I got into a debate with a Coach about her insistance that I include my daughters social security number on her athletics enrollment form. She said it was necessary in case my daughter was injured and needed to go to the hospital, that the hospital would require that information. I told her that wasn't true, they have her insurance information plus the only social they would need would be that of the primary on the insurance. She said they needed it and if my daughter wanted to play on her team at school, that info had better be there or the form would be kicked back.

I believe it was on one of those days I got tactful and patience as my words of the day.<g> I dropped the argument and she strutted off smugly thinking this was over. Well it's not. There's no point talking to a wall do I'll just go over it to someone else. The school asks for socials but can't make you give it to them. They say it's for tracking purposes but they can issue your child a ID number. I foolishly gave out my middle boy's social once because I was bullied into believing it was mandatory. Not but a few months later, he received a pre-approved credit card in the mail......he was only 6 years old!!! We called the credit card company many times then threatened to turn them over to the State Attorney's office to find out how they were able to obtain my 6 year old son's social security number. We never heard from them again.

With identity theft on the rise, I'll be damned if I'll let someone bully me into giving out that number again.
