I hope this incident serves as a wake-up call to Scott...

There's a good chance IMHO that the official PR response about the hedge guy laughing his ass off is (in this rare instance) an accurate reflection of what McNealy thinks, and that he won't give it another thought.

But when I read this rumor, my first reaction was: It makes sense. McNealy is tired of having to answer to shareholders and of people talking about his stock price ten times more than they talk about his products. It wouldn't be surprising if he just decided to buy out the peasants so the king could reign in peace.

What I don't think is that he's worried about any hostile moves or is subject to any wakeup calls. I think the board's too securely in his pocket, and his ego is too impervious.
