RE:"The state with some of the best weather and coastal beauty in the country is turning into a pit."

You could say the same for Florida.

The last time I was in FLA was the mid ninties. At that time, the only place in the state that looked similar to CA was downtown Miami and North Dade county. Granted I did not go through the entire state........but FLA is pretty photogenic and gets a lot of national airplay. I don't think its bad areas are close to those in CA.....at least not yet.

And I need to add that CA has some really good areas. I am really down on the state mainly because I have never seen a place deteriorate so quickly. There are still some really good areas......OC, Ventura, San Diego, SF, Sacramento........but you can see the bad stuff from LA moving into Ventura, OC and San Diego.

For an example, I had friends in OC and San Diego that I would go see in the early 90s. I usually would go by train because the freeways were so crowded, the train was nearly as fast and you did not feel hassled when you got to where you were going. On my first trips by train, once you left East LA, you never saw graffiti. By the time, I left in '98, you saw graffiti all along the route. And for those not familiar, graffiti signals that there is gang activity in the area. For me that was a sign that the cancer in LA was spreading to the better parts of S. CA.
