I have been attempting to find common ground with Feelies posters in general. For example, you like hunting but you also like writing, and write well. That interest we have in common is more interesting to me than what we do not have in common. And I bet you are a lot more conservative than I am in general, but I agree with some of your positions on moral issues.

I associate peace symbols with everything that was good about an America coming out of a very rigid and conservative and corrupt era. I was very proud that my generation took on Nixon and protested the Vietnam war, a war I did not support. It is true that there were excesses, but these were mostly overreactions to growing up in a time where everyone had to look and act and talk the same and wear exactly the same clothes and haircuts. And it was a time with a lot of very good music.

I think the social problems we are dealing with today came not from hippies and peace protestors at all, but from very rapid social changes of other sorts that did not serve families well. I think the rise of feminism (the hippies were definitely not feminists, incidentally) and the incredible dominance of mass media pretty much wrecked the American family.
