Back when the Alcan highway first opened to civilians in about 1950, my mother's cousin and her one armed husband converted a school bus into a camper. They also pulled a jeep to pull the bus across streams running across the road. Two spare tires for every tire on the road and 20 five gallon gas cans for fuel. Quite a trip back then.
