To this day, there is no highway to the part of Alaska, the Juneau area where that old car got stuck, and the Alexander Archipelago where there are a number of small cities. You can drive to Skagway and Haines, which are a seventy mile ferry trip to Juneau. You can drive to Fairbanks and Anchorage on the Alaska highway. It was built during the Second World War. Now it is mostly paved, I think. You can also take the Cassiar Highway up in British Columbia for a change. All but about 50 miles of that were paved when I drove it.
