I guess I'm just an inherently selfish person, but to me the problem with drugs is not addiction, but the associated violence and crime that comes with being addicted to a drug that is not readily available at a reasonable price.

Making the drugs legal will probably make them cheaper, and therefore reduce the amount of violence and crime associated with drug addiction, and thus pose less of a threat to me.

I realize that people do suffer horrible fates due to their drug addictions. But these are people who wouldn't piss on me if I was on fire, so I don't see why I should be unduly concerned with their fates, as opposed to mine.
