The great socks debate -

This is actually less serious than the "Bannana Trade War" with the EU. I don't think theres any real trade pressure, except maybe "Buy Boeing". Oh, and US cotton exports - got to make socks out of something.

While many US politicians are stupid, most are cynical - this is a ritual game. They are trying to look like they are doing something - without doing anything.

Japan was and to some degree is much more of an economic competitor. There were some real counter moves against Japan, much in the technology area, but some in cars. Now if the US can stop Japanese from building plants in China, and only let US companies have access to the lower costs and huge markets, that would be a "level playing field" ;-)

Happy to see parts of the Chinese government are helping this along by promoting certain anti-Japanese demostrations....
