Notice that article is written by an economist not a health care provider. My wife is a health care provider and she deals extensively with Medicare. I think they need people like her with EXPERIENCE rather then the clerks and other persons who have absolutely no experience in providing medical care to anyone. Her is just one SMALL example. My wife is responsible for all admissions to her floor, a 48 bed Rehab unit in a Hospital. Most of her admissions come from a acute medical floor (hip surgeries, stroke patients and the like). It is FAR LESS EXPENSIVE for a patient to be put in Rehab after being stabilized then it is to maintain them in an acute care facility. Yet, the requirements for admission to Rehab are very stringent and often patients languish in a floor that costs THOUSANDS per day rather then Rehab (in the same hospital that costs like 1,000 a day and that includes ALL prescribed treatments not just rehab. Now as to nursing homes, to even include them in the same discussion as Hospitals is Ludicrous. Nursing homes are not anywhere near in the same league and no place for an ill patient. jdn
