KLP, I know exactly what you mean about older, and suffering, people that are losing their memory, and losing touch with the rest of the world. Some time after my Mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, her attorney told her that it would be best if I be given power of attorney in order to keep track of her expenditures, which had gotten out of hand. Every time she got one of those things in the mail, that looks like a bill, but is actually asking for donations, etc. she would write a check. The POA was signed one afternoon, and she handed my the check book herself. but by 6 PM, she was calling me, and accusing me of stealing her check book, and that if I didn't return it at once, she was going to call the police. I told her to go ahead and call the police, but by the next morning she had forgotten she even had a check book.

As others have said, Laura Bush is the epitome of a lady. She has grace, poise, intelligence, and humor, with out appearing to be some one of high rank.
