What were the insurgents trying to accomplish at Abu Ghraib? They received worldwide attention and the US Military stood up and took notice AND told the world how well-coordinated and sophisticated the attack was.

Who knows, maybe that was their objective.

No one knows:

1. How many 'insurgents' there are
2. How many who have been arrested are actually insurgents or innocent people ratted on by their neighbors and enemies
3. How many incidents there are
4. How many are killed, wounded, arrested as a result of those incidents

The reality is that we certainly have no idea since Iraq is so blooming dangerous, 2 years are 'major combat operations have ended' that journalists and NGOs can't get in to count heads.

There is virtually no credible, large scale, independent reporting from Iraq and from huge swaths of Afghanistan. That is because the US Military has FAILED - FAILED - FAILED to quell a ragtag bunch of third worlders.

Why has it failed? That's a good question and one that should be debated every single day in the national press.

One good reason: Bush/Bremmer/Rummy LOST TRACK OF $8.8 BILLION in Iraqi oil money. Where in the world did it go? Why in the world would the corrupt people who made off with it want the violence to end?

This kind of chaos and nearly unlimited cash floating around Iraq is a fabulous opportunity for people to get ridiculously rich off the back so the US Taxpayer and Iraqi citizen.
