Libertas has tipped us off to this and this. Now comes a movie Steven Spielberg is planning about the 1972 Munich Olympics. Here's a description of the film's take on it:
There was less than a week left in the 1972 Olympics on September 5th. The events that unfolded that morning would change the very nature of the millennia-old competition. An octet of highly trained Arab terrorists from a PLO group named Black September attacked and kidnapped 11 Israelis. Two of the victims who attempted to resist the incursion were slain in the encounter, bringing bloodshed to the Games for the first time. ...
After being publicly humiliated over the kidnapping, German officials wanted to save face by stopping the escape route of the terrorists. Police sharpshooters were recklessly given the Go command to open fire on the kidnappers. A firefight ensued and in the process, all kidnapped athletes were killed along with a policeman and two of the terrorists. As McKay reported to the world, they were all dead.
That description should give you an idea of the bigger theme. You see, it was the overzealous police trying to stop the terrorists who caused the most bloodshsed. They were the bad guys; they should've talked more. More diplomacy would've stopped the terror. More negotiation would've stopped the terror. It was aggressive force that caused the death's of the innocent hostages who, no doubt, would still be alive had the terrorists been appeased, er, understood and listened too.
Does anyone with an IQ above room temperature not sense an Iraq correlation? Not sense a Bush's War on Terror correlation?
So, in keeping with a thirty year Hollywood tradition that everything bad that happens in the world is America's fault -- or at least white guys fault -- we should start a contest to see how else Spielberg might incorporate his anti-Americanism. Here are some choices to start with:
Will the Arab terrorists simply be switched to Nazi's ala' Sum Of All Fears?
Will the terrorists be right-wingers or anti-communists ala' every friggin' film in Hollywood?
Will we be asked to understand the terrorists because the root cause of their hate is white guy colonialism as in Hotel Rwanda?
Or, will we suffer through moral relativism regarding Israel's right to exist or a condemnation of Israel's tactics in trying to defend herself?
Because it's important to remember that murderous, evil, racist, terrorist, women hating, book burning, bigoted religious fanatics who aren't white Americans or Europeans only exist in the real world. |
