Japan also has a huge savings rate, something like 20%, whereas Americans are down around 1% for 2004. The US trade reps have always prodded the Japanese authorities to get their population to consume more, like the US has, but they are a conservative society and have resisted. Frankly, I agree with Warren Buffet in that America is a "sharecroppers" society, and we are sacrificing prosperity for future generations by spending it now.

Growth expectations for the Eurozone have gone down in recent months as well.

America sneezes and the world catches a cold, that is what we are seeing now, IMHO. What happens if America catches that cold as well? Global economic growth declines further and share prices drop.
