You are probably correct that they are being unfairly punished by the market because they are just a likely to be owned by tech investors as medical ones.

Hang out on the Varian subjects long enough and you will find vindictive sniping former employees and their cohorts that cannot forget what happened many years ago. They work overtime attempting to create negative publicity for Varian.

I believe the two companies used to be one.
