Modern medicine has changed a lot. It is pretty rare for people who aren't really old just to get sick and die. There wasn't any really effective antibiotic until penicillin, and it wasn't very commonly available until post-WWII. So I am inclined to believe Taro in this. Pre-1960s was a very different world from what we have now.

I guess but you will agree that seeing a child die is a very rare event. In fact, my cousin says that if someone under 18 dies in an non accident event, he assumes its suicide.......that's how rare it is.

Things must have changed significantly in ten years.
