So just do what we want and screw the rest of the world if they don't like it. It sounds like what you are blaming Bush for doing.

No. I never said that......what does Bush have to do with offshore, tax havens?

I didn't say you said Bush had anything to do with offshore tax havens. I'm saying you normally blame Bush for having the attitude that we will do what we want and screw everyone else if they don't agree.

Good point. What I meant was the corporate world, not "the rest of the world". While even that has some similarity to Bush
stance, its not nearly as isolating as his policies. Besides, I am tired of corps complaining about taxes. When I was a kid in MN, corps. complained 24/7 that MN was a high tax state and that it was soon going to hell in hand basket. In fact, to back up its threat, one corp. moved one of its plants to ND. Finally, the state cut its business taxes. Not more than 5 years later, another corp. threatened the state with a move out. This time the state said f---k off.

During that five year period, quality of life had become a big buzz words and MN was at or near the top of that list. Fast forward to the 21st century, and MN is still a very desirable, solidly growing state.

So I have a fairly anti corporate attitude. A corp. that's doing well and is well managed will comment if they feel a particular tax is onerous. The ones that complain ad nauseaum are usually the corps who are mismanaged and hurting financially and would be hurting in whatever state they were located.

Gov't's responsibility is to maintain its infrastructure well, take advantage of innovations and insure the state's population is well educated and informed. A non corrupt gov't will charge the going price to provide those services.

Because now they are foreign companies.

Why do you defend them? They are not your friend.

I don't care much about them. Your right they are not my friends. But the policy would be a bad idea for a number of reasons, that is why I am arguing against it.

Like what reasons?

I want to tax companies that were American and moved only because they wanted to stop paying taxes.

I'm against such trade barriers.

You are not taxing a product so it does not constitute a trade barrier. It would be similar to a business license. If you want to sell in the US market, you must pay a set amount for a license to do business in the country. BTW something like that might already exist.
