wharfmonger- in the USA we're money based... it's plentiful and easy to come by. if we need something, we work more to earn more money and then we go buy what we need with the money. in mexico and other places downsouth money is scarce. a month's worth of work only produces enough money for a few days worth of needs. the rest of their needs are provided by, bartered for and obtained directly from other people. good relations are a form of livelihood and good will is currency. time spent in long lunch/siesta-time gatherings and long evening meals with family and acquaintances is more profitable than time spent working on a job because it builds the valuable currency of good will and personal relations. it also happens to be a more enjoyable way to spend time... more opportunities to blurt out "i love this job." here's a plan for a change in currency: whereas, my plan is to spend as much time downsouth as possible during my remaining days of solar circumnavigations... and whereas, i do not have a huge pot of money to leave this economy... and whereas, i will not be able to carry the rules of this economy into the lands downsouth to support myself as i could here... therefore be it resolved... ...that i'm transitioning to the "relationship based" method of pursuing my livelihood. good relations with every person i meet are important to me. finding out more about everyone i meet is important to me. discovering what needs they have that i can help provide through knowledge and skills i already possess is important to my livelihood. i don't know anyone other than a couple of goldsmith friends who NEED gold! i'm going to work on my own skills, personal relationships and goodwill as my currency. can i interest you in some "filthy" digital peektures of my seester? she has a live webcam. <vbg> -ep webman
