I'm getting sleepy, and I can't find the post you wrote about how stupid cows were, but I did want to comment on it. Is it possible that you are not thinking of the humanity (for want of a better word) of cows because, like Oral, the relationship you had with them was not conducive to that?

I am not arguing that cows are brilliant--because I don't know. I do know that I really like their peaceful mellow energy. They were my favorite animals to play with when I was a little girl.

Could you possibly suspend your disbelief about cows long enough to read the beginning of this interview with Helen Thomas--the part about the cow mothering her own bereaved daughter? It is not just raw intelligence but the recently developed emotional similarities between animals and humans that make some of us think they need to be treated more lovingly. Of course, the entire interview is well worth reading, if you are at all curious.
