Thank you for the correction it was 4.77 MHz.

My memory is starting to fail.

I remember it well. Fall, 1985. My first computer. From the back of a little half-inch thick (or less) ad magazine called Computer Shopper I mail-ordered a Pinecomm PC-XT clone with a 4.77 MHz 8088, dual floppy, CGA video with amber monochrome monitor, flip-top case, and 640k of RAM for $995. Separately bought a full-height Seagate 20 Meg HD and controller for $495. Even later purchased the screaming Volksmodem 12 external 1200 bps modem (no acoustic coupler for me!).
This was real money back then.

I probably should have bought Intel's IPO six months later instead...

Remind me to tell you about the ad in the April 1979 Byte for a CPM computer "with 64k of RAM to run even the most sophisticated applications." OTOH I just did so don't bother.
