Toyota sold just over 2 million vehicles last year in the United States, and produced 1.44 million in North America. Under the Japanese automaker's latest plans, it will have capacity to produce 1.66 million cars and trucks a year in the region by 2006.

Right now, Toyota ships V-6 engines from Japan to the Baja California plant. But beginning in late summer, Toyota's engine factory in Huntsville, Ala., will start supplying the Mexican and Fremont (Fremont CA - 5 min from Lam Research) assembly plants.
